We celebrated National Pizza Day with WEAU’s Hello Wisconsin!

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) — February 9th marks National Pizza Day! A local pizza expert joined the morning team to talk “zah” and she is showed us how to toss dough and a few unique fun facts. Claudia Draganowski is the co-owner of Draganetti’s Ristorante and Taverna Grill.She and her family have been making pizza in western Wisconsin for decades. They’re even opening a new pizza restaurant later this year called za51 – a tribute to pizza and the year their family started in the restaurant business.

She taught the morning team about tossing pizza dough and how it’s a lot harder than it looks.

According to “The Daily Meal” foodie website: The word pizza was first documented in Italy in 997 AD – but topping flatbreads with herbs dates back thousands of years to the ancient Greeks.

World War II brought pizza to the masses — soldiers stationed in Italy during World War II discovered pizza there and couldn’t get enough of it. They brought their tastes back to the states.

The world record pizza according to Guinness was 123 feet across and was made in South Africa in 1990.
